Week 36 - last week of 2011

Well, first of all I hope you all had a Happy Christmas or are at least enjoying the Holidays should this time of year have any relevance to you. Second, I did the parkrun on Christmas day and got another pb!!! 35 minutes 25 seconds! It was a real struggle for the first 2 kilometres (I set off too fast), then once I had settled into my stride it got a bit easier but was still a struggle as my mind wasn't into it. I guess some days are just like that. There were loads of santa's and various costumed runners, including 2 little girls dressed as presents! It was very festive and actually a great way to start Christmas day. I opened up my stride for the last 1/2 km so I think that's where I knocked off 12 seconds from last weeks run.

I ran week 3 day 2 of the Bridge to 10k  programme yesterday with hubby. That was a real struggle too, but I did finish it all. My runkeeper gave up on me (again) after the 1st km so I turned it off and hubby used his Garmin instead. Both times recently that runkeeper hasn't worked properly is after I have turned my phone off then on again. It clearly upset the whole app so I won't do that again.

I won't even begin to tell you about my diet this week. I haven't been careful at all. This behaviour will definitley continue through to New Years Day as there are still plenty of chocolates, mince pies and wine in the house. Because of this I won't officially weigh in until January 6th so I have a week to sort it out (or not)

Week 35 - Christmas is nearly upon us.

This is going to be an erratic week of exercise. Work is busy.
I should have run yesterday (Monday) but it was freezing out and raining hard, for hours, until it got dark. So I didn't. Instead I investigated the two gyms near me but still haven't joined either one.
This morning I ran to the station in record time of 14.58 minutes. Thats a 6.59 km pace over 2.14km. If I can do that on my next 5k I will smash last Saturdays record time by almost a minute.

There are mince pies everywhere. All I am thinking about at the moment is food for the Christmas holidays. I am also trying to organise the house for various visitors. I think my next run will have to be on Friday, then Christmas day. After that I do have the time to run more so I can run off the Christmas excess and continue into the new year with gusto.

I will endeavour to not stuff my face until bursting point but equally I am not going to police my eating too much so I am miserable. Now I have the running bug I know I can easily work off a few extra lbs gained. I definitely think that in the battle of the bulge exercise is the most important factor. if you can get into a routine of exercise that you enjoy then eating more healthily will just follow naturally.

Footnote. I ran the station run this morning (Thursday) and plan on a long run later today as a client has cancelled. More on that later....

Week 34 - ending in a park run PB!!!

Saturday morning. The park was beautiful. Burnt orange rays of sunlight spreading out like fingers across the frosty grass. It was cold and crisp. I fully expected this park run, my first since July and 4th all together, to be back in the 40 minute mark.
I set my runkeeper to tell me my pace as each kilometre passed. The 1st kilometre passed in 7 minutes 09 seconds. This was good timing. My runkeeper failed on me 18 meters later so I ran the rest of the run "blind".  2/3rds of the way round a boy with a 10 parkrun t-shirt on was walking. As I passed him I said "don't let me beat you!" He smiled as I passed and then ran ahead of me. He was a skinny kid and I think was suffering a bit from the cold. He started walking again so I overtook him. Hubby was waiting at the finish line with the camera I picked up my pace a bit and the 10 t-shirt kid zoomed passed me! I was no way going to catch him up. I felt good as I finished though. Hubby said I definitely did my run in 35 minutes.
We got home, showered, went out for some brunch, came back and looked at the results. I did my run in 35.37!!!! I couldn't believe it! Thats almost 2 1/2 minutes faster than my last parkrun! Woo bloody Hooo!!! Next week park run is on christmas eve and christmas day so we have chosen to do it on christmas day! It will be good to get up and out first thing and make me feel slightly less guilty about what I will eat!

Week 34 - day 2 week 2 b210k

I took myself our for the second run of week 2 of the bridge to 10k programme between clients. It was cold outside but sunny. Really pretty down by the river which makes it all worth while. The run was 3 x 15 minute runs and the last 15 minutes was, again, really hard. I can't see how on earth I am going to manage to run 10k without stopping to walk. But then, I do have a couple of months to go so a lot can change in that time. I still think back to the beginning when I struggle to jog lightly for 1 minute!

My eating has been erratic this week. I must stop buying packets of mini mince pies! I'm not fooling anyone by eating them. Two are the same as one large one but I keep eating 3 saying to myself "they are only small"....The next couple of weeks are going to be a bit of a nightmare food wise but if I keep up with the running minimal damage will be done.

Week 34 - building muscles

Well I ran run 1 week 2 of the bridge to 10k programme on Monday - in-between clients. I didn't cover 10k because I had to get back for the afternoon shift. But I still managed to cover a distance of 5.4 miles/ 8.71 km. The run consisted of 3 x 15 minute runs with a minute walk between. The final run was really hard. When I first started this running lark I felt the runs in my calves and just above the knee. Now I am running further I really feel it in my upper thighs. This feels good because I can imagine my muscles are created in my lower legs from the 5k runs and now I am on the 10k runs its time to build the muscle in the upper leg. I wonder if it will continue through my body to my head?
I didn't run at all on Tuesday or Wednesday due to work. My eating has been a bit bad this week too. All due to the mince pies and poorly timed meals I'm afraid. Unfortunately I can see this carrying on throughout the next 2 weeks. I may have to have a major dietary overhaul in the New Year!

The doorbell went at 7.15 this morning. 7.15am!! Tutting, frowning and pulling on my dressing gown I went down to see who it could possibly be. As I reached the bottom of the stairs the outside door was opened and something was dropped to the floor in the porch. I could just make out the Royal Mail reflector top the guy was wearing as he headed down the road. The post NEVER comes before 10am! There on the floor were my Hotel Chocolat chocolates I had ordered for myself while doing hubbies corporate gift orders. Christmas has come early! Anyway I have tucked them away out of sight until Christmas eve at least!
I did my station run (I've only done 1 this week!) this morning, but not at record pace. Also, annoyingly,  my runkeeper didn't track me until a few minutes in to my run. I have my b210k run to do today also so I didn't want to knacker myself out. Since doing the longer runs my thighs certainly feel the extra push the next day. Its a sign that something is happening. I am also at a stage where I am quite happy to wear skirts above my knee. I think my legs are taking on a nice shape even though I still have a bit more weight to lose.
I ran my 3rd run of my bridge to 10k after breakfast. It was very hard going! The last 10 minutes, as with the other runs, was a killer on my legs. But I managed it and covered a longer distance too! Next week is 3 x 15 minute runs which I am a bit worried about. Partly because I know it will be hard and partly because I am very busy with clients for the next 2 weeks and don't know when I am going to fit it all in!

Wednesday
The sun was shining and the sky was blue today but my god it was cold!!! I do prefer to run in the summer! My toes where like little ice cubes in my running shoes. It took the good 1st kilometre before my feet thawed out and start to become warm. Today was run 2 of the Bridge to 10k programme. As with day 1 it was 4 lots of 10 minute runs with a minutes recovery walk between and as with day 1 the last 10 minute run was hard! My thighs were solid by the time I finished. I covered just under 7 kilometres for the runs and a little extra for the walk back made the whole run/walk 10k. I now have a point on my run which I have earmarked as my 5k turning point - it's a bin...next to a tree. I stretched double the amount I normally do so I am good and ready for the 3rd run on Friday.

Exercise  - day2, b210k +walk over 10k =773 calories
Food = 1953 calories. A bit over but we went out for an impromptu dinner :-)

Week 33 - 1st day of Bridge to 10k

I started my bridge to 10k programme today which I programmed into my Runkeeper app.  I thought as I can run 30 minutes no problem I will ditch the couch 2 5k programme now and push myself a little further. The run consisted of 4 x 10 minute runs with 1 minute walk between. I thought it would be easy but I ran each run faster than if I was doing 40 minutes all together so the 1 minute recovery walk was not enough. I struggled for the final 10 minutes but I did complete it with a fair walk back home at the end too. I also did the station run this morning so all in all a very good calorie burning day.

Week 32 - Picture update

There's not really a lot to say about this weekend. I didn't do any running at all Saturday or Sunday. We were out Saturday afternoon and evening eating and drinking so calories where out of the window. My back started to tweak a bit in the afternoon, it was still tweaking on Sunday morning so I bowed out of a run with hubby. Instead I got together some progress pics and posted them on My Progress Pictures page  over there ->

Saturday 3 December 2011

Week 32 - Stats!!!!

This weeks stats are;

Jog/walk 21 miles/33.79 km

Burned 2,577 calories

Lost 3lbs bring my total weight loss to 27.2lbs, just 14oz off 2 stone or 1/3 of the way, which I have to  do next week.

I decided against the Parkrun 5k on Saturday because my left hamstring is a bit tight from the running this week. I also think I will definitely be the last one through the finish line as my long run on Thursday was very slow. I need to build up my stamina for 1 or 2 more weeks and make sure I will be injury free. I have also got hold of a bridge to 10k training schedule and have found out that I can enter it into my Runkeeper  app so thats brilliant. Better than buying yet another app for my phone!

Friday
Exercise = station run. 183 calories
Food  = calories unknown as we were out for dinner
Breakfast
fruit n fibre
banana
tea
Lunch
soup
ryvita
apple
Dinner

Week 32 - Running on Rocket Fuel

44 seconds off my last station run PB!! I did it in 15.37 this morning. I don't know how but I ran from the end of my drive all the way only to stop at the traffic lights. Normally I would walk the first few minutes to warm up and then walk a bit somewhere in the middle.
I also had my run 3 of week 7 couch 2 5k to do today so off I went. Instead of stopping after 25 minutes I continued on for another 10 minutes running for 35 minutes non stop! On the way back I jogged some too but then my knees started to ache a bit so I thought I would give it a rest. I seems to have endless energy! I wish every day was like this one. I burned loads of calories!
