Week 1. Results and Reflection.

Well, I stepped on the scales a bit bleary eyed this morning not expecting much. I did, however lose 1 lb! I wasn't really expecting any change as I haven't curbed my eating at all. Well, it seems there is something to be said for exercise alone after all. So now I have 41 lbs to lose!

While I tried to write down every morsel that past my lips during the week there were a couple of items I forgot about. I'ts interesting that we forget about the food we eat. Is that symptomatic of a greater malaise? The foods I forgot to write down were; several vodka and oranges ( we ran out of wine), the rest of the packet of Dr Kargs crackers which are actually quite high in calories, 2 mini magnums and the garlic foccaccia I shared with hubby over lunch. Now I think I must spend a fair amount of time eating without realising it or taking any notice!
I also note that mid afternoon is a bad time for me. Chocolate brownies, biscuits, bread and butter. These are all quick grab things to eat. I clearly have a blood sugar slump around 3 or 4 in the afternoon so I need to address that by stocking the fridge up with healthier grab items.
I must also say that I don't usually drink this much alcohol as you will see next week. Having said that, like my food habits, I hope I don't drink wine without realising it!!
As for my exercise I haven't really done very much in the last few years. I get spurts of energy and decide to do my fitnmess videoi for about a week or the Wii or go running with hubby but it's all very short lived. Iam hoping this 9 week thing I am doing with my Get Running app http://splendid-things.co.uk/getrunning/ will do exactly that. At the moment I am enjoying it. Not forgetting of course, using my Runkeeper app http://runkeeper.com/ on my rest days to track any other walks or runs I do.
So I think I will geive myself an action plan each week, nothing too drastic but something I will do. This is a long term change after all.

Action plan
Write down my food intake as I go through the day rather than try to remember it as I am writing my blog.

  1. Good work :) Keep it up!! Lol I tried to keep a food diary too and always managed to forget the chocolate!! So then I started keeping a notepad in my handbag so I could write down food as I was eating it... have you tried that??

    Good luck xxxxx
